The Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Watertown is responsible for peforming administrative and professional work, managing the
finances and accounting and maintaining the records of the city. The Clerk-Treasurer is also responsible for processing the payroll and
conducting elections in election years.
City Fee Schedule
The City Clerk's office is responsible for collecting and processing payments for various city licenses (animal licenses, business licenses
and permits). A current city fee schedule is available.
Typical Duties Performed
- Prepares accounts payable and receivable transactions including coding and posting information to automated journals; verifies account
information; and generates checks for bill payments.
- Maintains and processes payroll, payroll deductions, payroll records and reports; audits, prints and signs checks.
- Identifies money available to be invested; invests in accordance with state guidelines; reviews security pledging periodically.
- Assists the Finance Director in developing and administering annual
City budget, and in monitoring expenditures and receipts during the year.
- Acts as secretary for the City Council including attending Council meetings and taking minutes; assists in preparing agendas,
resolutions and other necessary paperwork for meetings; organizes and maintains records of minutes, ordinances, and resolutions.
- Provides certifies copies of proceedings and records of the city upon request and administers oaths.
- Receives requests, complaints, and information from the public and transmits to staff and/or Council or handles.
- Directs local elections including preparing ballots and receiving candidate filings; providing supplies for polling places; posting
and publishing notices of election; coordinating details with County, certifying results for Council, etc.
- Selects schedules, trains, and advises elections judges and maintains election records and files.
